United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced Friday that Ali Odeh Abdeljaber, 31, of Kentucky, has pleaded guilty to forcibly assaulting, resisting, and impeding an officer and employee of the United States. Abdeljaber faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
According to court documents, Abdeljaber is currently an inmate at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex, United States Penitentiary I, located in Sumter County, Florida.

On March 18, 2024, a correctional officer from the Federal Bureau of Prisons was attempting to escort Abdeljaber to his assigned cell within the facility.
During the escort, Abdeljaber became combative and lunged forward, using his head to strike the officer in the face. The correctional officer sustained injuries as a result of the assault, including two fractured teeth.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons conducted the investigation into this incident. Assistant United States Attorney Hannah Nowalk Watson is prosecuting the case.
A sentencing date for Abdeljaber has not yet been scheduled.
