HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Tuesday morning, claiming the life of a Brooksville pedestrian.
The incident took place at approximately 4:20 AM at the intersection of Wiscon Road and California Street. According to investigators, a 45-year-old man from Brooksville was walking northbound across Wiscon Road when he entered the path of a vehicle traveling westbound.
The vehicle, described by FHP as an early model Dodge Durango of an unknown color, struck the pedestrian. The driver did not stop and instead fled the scene, continuing westbound on Wiscon Road.

Tragically, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
Authorities are now searching for the driver and the vehicle involved. The Florida Highway Patrol urges anyone who may have witnessed the incident, seen a vehicle matching the description in the area around that time, or has any information regarding the driver or the Durango to contact them immediately.
