A violent stabbing incident early Saturday morning in North Lauderdale resulted in the death of a woman and critical injuries to her daughter, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO).

At approximately 1:50 a.m. on April 12th, BSO deputies and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 1800 block of Runners Way. Upon arrival, they discovered two adult female victims suffering from stab wounds.

Maguy Pouye was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Her daughter, Isabelle Joseph, was treated for her injuries and remains in critical condition.

According to the BSO, the suspect, Vital Joseph, 56, had fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Detectives determined that Vital Joseph, who had previously resided at the residence and was in a past relationship with Maguy Pouye, was the perpetrator.

“Late Saturday night, Joseph was arrested by the Palm Bay Police Department with assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol,” the BSO stated. He was subsequently booked into the Brevard County Jail on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and burglary of a dwelling with a battery.

The BSO news release indicates that Vital Joseph broke into the home and proceeded to violently attack Pouye and her daughter. Deputies have declined to comment on whether the suspect and Isabelle Joseph are related.

Isabelle Joseph has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her mother’s funeral. On the page, she described her mother as “the center of our world—a strong, selfless, and devoted woman who gave her entire heart to raising her five children.”

The BSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene units are continuing their investigation.
