TAMPA, Fla. (April 14, 2025) – Motorists in South Tampa are advised to seek alternate routes as South Himes Avenue has been fully closed between West Watrous Avenue and West Jetton Avenue. The closure, which will begin at 9 a.m. today, is due to the Tampa Water Department returning to the area to complete additional repairs following previous maintenance on the water distribution system.
According to the City of Tampa, the unexpected continued work necessitates a full road closure to ensure the safety of workers and the efficiency of the repairs. Barricades and signage have been deployed to guide traffic around the affected area.

The current estimated completion time for the work, and the subsequent reopening of South Himes Avenue, is set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16. However, officials caution that the work schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to consider alternative routes and exercise caution when navigating the area. The Tampa Water Department also noted that modifications to lane closures may be necessary throughout the duration of the project.
