CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Citrus County Courthouse received a suspicious envelope in the mail earlier today, prompting an investigation by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

The envelope was addressed to multiple courthouse staff members and contained a letter with threatening language and an unidentified substance.

Courthouse staff followed established safety protocols and immediately contacted the CCSO Bomb Team and Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) Hazmat. The envelope was moved to a secure location for further examination and testing.

Authorities have determined that the unidentified substance was a common household substance and posed no immediate threat or disruption to courthouse operations.

The CCSO’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is now leading a thorough investigation to identify the sender of the envelope and determine any applicable charges.
