LAKELAND, Fla. – A 29-year-old Lakeland woman was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) and faces additional charges after allegedly spitting on a deputy, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).
The incident began on Saturday, April 5th, at approximately 6:43 PM, when a concerned citizen called 911 to report a woman driving a silver Mazda MZ6 who had a bloody hand and appeared to be drinking while driving.
The caller continued to follow the Mazda and provided dispatch with updates on its location until the deputies arrived.

A PCSO deputy conducted a traffic stop on the Mazda at the intersection of Lakeland Highlands Road and Clubhouse Road, south of Lakeland.
As the deputy approached the driver’s window, the driver handed him a black bag, stating, “This is all I have.” The bag contained an empty glass bottle of E&J brandy.
The driver was identified as Michaela Hames, 29, of Lakeland. Deputies reported that she was irate, used vulgar language, and was uncooperative.

Hames claimed that the blood on her hand was from a broken vase at her residence.
Deputies say she admitted to consuming alcohol and smoking marijuana but refused to participate in a Field Sobriety Test.
Michaela Hames was arrested on suspicion of DUI and transported to the Polk County Jail. While at the jail, Hames allegedly became combative with a deputy and spat on him.
Breath samples provided by Hames registered 0.140 and 0.148. The legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit in Florida is 0.08.

- DUI
- Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)
- Resisting Arrest with Violence
- Resisting Arrest without Violence
