LAKE WALES, Fla. – Helen Mathews, 59, of Lake Wales, has claimed a massive $5 million top prize from the Florida Lottery’s GOLD RUSH LIMITED Scratch-Off game. Mathews collected her winnings at Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee and chose to receive a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,960,000.00.
Mathews purchased her winning ticket from Murphy USA, located at 2048 Sam Walton Way in Lake Wales. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning Scratch-Off ticket.

The $20 Scratch-Off game, GOLD RUSH LIMITED, launched in September 2021, and features 32 top prizes of $5 million and 100 prizes of $1 million. The game also boasts over 33,000 prizes ranging from $1,000 to $100,000, with overall odds of winning at 1-in-2.65.
Scratch-Off games are a significant part of the Florida Lottery’s offerings, representing approximately 74% of ticket sales in fiscal year 2023-2024. Since their inception, Scratch-Off games have awarded more than $65.5 billion in prizes, creating 2,283 millionaires, and generating more than $19.80 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund (EETF).
