Lakeland Men Arrested After Early Morning Car Burglaries, Golf Cart Chase

LAKELAND, Fla. – Two Lakeland men, 21-year-old Bradley Shaw and 20-year-old Caiden Kirkland, were arrested early Wednesday morning after a series of car burglaries in the May Grove Village neighborhood, thanks to a vigilant resident and swift action by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

The incident unfolded around 3:00 a.m. when a resident noticed the brake lights of his neighbor’s parked car illuminating. He then observed Shaw and Kirkland opening car doors. The pair proceeded to cross the street and open the resident’s own vehicle. Upon confronting them, the two men fled the scene.

The resident immediately called 911 and then began following Shaw and Kirkland as they attempted to escape in a golf cart.

PCSO deputies quickly arrived and apprehended the two men as they attempted to discard masks and gloves.

Shaw and Kirkland were arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail.

Each faces a multitude of charges, including:

  • Unarmed burglary of an occupied dwelling (3 counts) (mask enhancement)
  • Trespassing (2 counts)
  • Loitering and prowling (6 counts)
  • Conspiracy to commit burglary
  • Possession of burglary tools
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Resisting arrest without violence
  • Burglary of a conveyance
  • Petit theft 2nd offense
  • Unlawful possession of personal identification.
