Citrus County Crash Claims Life Of 18-Year-Old, Inverness Driver Over-Corrects On Curve

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic head-on collision on Stage Coach Trail late Wednesday night resulted in the death of an 18-year-old woman and serious injuries to a 17-year-old driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. A 41-year-old Inverness man was driving a Toyota RAV4 eastbound on Stage Coach Trail, while a 17-year-old male from Lecanto was driving a Honda Civic westbound.

According to the FHP report, the driver of the Toyota RAV4 failed to negotiate a curve in the road west of South Trail 9. The vehicle veered onto the south shoulder of the roadway, prompting the driver to over-correct back across the travel lanes.

The Toyota then entered the westbound lane, colliding nearly head-on with the Honda Civic.

The 41-year-old driver of the Toyota RAV4 sustained minor injuries. The 17-year-old driver of the Honda Civic suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Tragically, an 18-year-old Citrus Springs woman, a passenger in the Honda Civic, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
