Florida’s recreational anglers fishing in Atlantic state waters are reminded that the harvest of greater amberjack will close on April 1, 2025. This closure will remain in effect through April 30, 2025.

This annual closure is a vital measure to protect greater amberjack during their spawning season, ensuring the long-term health of this popular fish population. Recreational harvest will reopen on May 1, 2025.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is committed to gathering essential recreational harvest data to inform the responsible management of reef fish species, including greater amberjack. The State Reef Fish Survey is a key tool in this effort, providing the FWC with precise catch and effort information.

The FWC emphasizes the importance of anglers and spearfishers who intend to fish for or harvest specific reef fish species from private vessels in Florida to be signed up as a State Reef Fish Angler. More information about the State Reef Fish Survey can be found at MyFWC.com/SRFS.
