Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) is co-leading a legislative effort alongside Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) to solidify President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency into federal law.
The bill, known as H.R. 2006 – “The Department of Government Efficiency Act” (DOGE Act), aims to codify Executive Order 14210, which established the department as part of Trump’s initiative to optimize the federal workforce and eliminate government waste.

The measure is one of 88 pieces of legislation supported by Donalds in the 119th Congress and has also gained backing from Representatives Aaron Bean (R-FL), Barry Moore (R-AL), Mike Rulli (R-OH), Victoria Spartz (R-IN), Darrell Issa (R-CA), and Mary Miller (R-IL).
Donalds emphasized the urgency of passing the bill, citing America’s growing fiscal challenges.
“$2 trillion annual deficits, $36 trillion in debt, and the Washington Swamp wants to continue to grow—enough is enough,” Donalds said in a statement. “We’re taking our country back, we’re putting the American people first again, and under President Trump, the Department of Government Efficiency is doing just that. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we codify this consequential endeavor into federal law.”

The DOGE Act would ensure that Executive Order 14210, which formalized efforts to streamline government operations, has the full force of law.
The Department of Government Efficiency was created as part of a broader Trump administration push to reduce bureaucracy, increase accountability, and curb wasteful spending in federal agencies.
H.R. 2006 has been referred to a House committee for review, but it will need to pass both chambers of Congress before reaching President Trump’s desk for signature.

With Republican backing, the bill is expected to gain momentum in the House, though its fate in the Democratic-controlled Senate remains uncertain.
If enacted, the Department of Government Efficiency would become a permanent fixture in the federal government, solidifying efforts to curb bureaucratic inefficiencies and government spending.
