St. Cloud And Winter Haven Men Injured In SR-557 Crash In Polk County

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A medical emergency caused a serious collision on State Road 557 (SR-557) in Polk County on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM, north of Old Lake Alfred Road. A 48-year-old man from St. Cloud was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on SR-557. Ahead of him, a 50-year-old Winter Haven man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck, also southbound, and was stopped in traffic.

According to the FHP report, the driver of the Toyota Camry suffered a medical emergency, resulting in a loss of control of the vehicle. The Camry subsequently collided with the rear of the stopped Dodge Ram pickup.

The 48-year-old St. Cloud man sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured in the collision.

However, a 27-year-old Winter Haven man, who was a passenger in the Dodge Ram, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to an area hospital.
