The Republican Party of Florida continues to expand its voter registration lead, holding a nearly 1.2 million-voter advantage over Democrats at the end of February 2025, according to newly posted data from the Florida Division of Elections.
The numbers show Republicans with 5,635,743 registered voters, compared to 4,437,884 registered Democrats, giving the GOP a 1,197,859-voter edge. That margin has grown from 1,179,508 at the end of January, reflecting the party’s continued gains in one of the nation’s most politically significant battleground states.

For decades, Democrats held the voter registration advantage in Florida, but that dynamic has shifted dramatically in recent years. The Republican Party has methodically expanded its lead, helping secure full control of statewide offices and supermajorities in both chambers of the Florida Legislature.
In addition to the two major parties, Florida also has:
- 3,696,621 voters registered with no party affiliation (NPA)
- 424,809 voters registered with third parties
The growing NPA segment has been a key factor in Florida elections, as many independent voters have leaned Republican in recent cycles, further solidifying the GOP’s hold on the state.
The increasing Republican voter registration lead has coincided with the party’s dominance at the state and federal level:
- Governor Ron DeSantis won reelection in 2022 by nearly 20 percentage points, a historic margin in a state known for close elections.
- Republicans hold both U.S. Senate seats in Florida, with Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott.
- The GOP controls the state cabinet, including the offices of Attorney General, Chief Financial Officer, and Agriculture Commissioner.
- The Florida Legislature remains solidly Republican, with supermajorities in the House and Senate.

The continued decline in Democratic voter registration highlights challenges for the party as it seeks to rebuild in Florida. Over the past few election cycles, Democrats have struggled with turnout, voter enthusiasm, and messaging, particularly in key demographic groups.
Efforts by state and national Democratic leaders to reinvigorate the party have so far not reversed the Republican momentum, which has been driven by aggressive voter outreach, policy priorities resonating with Florida voters, and national political trends.
With the 2026 midterm elections approaching, the growing Republican voter registration advantage could shape congressional races, state legislative battles, and local elections.

Meanwhile, Democrats face increasing pressure to reorganize, recruit new candidates, and reconnect with voters to remain competitive in a state that was once considered a swing state.
For now, Florida remains a stronghold for the GOP, with voter registration trends signaling continued Republican dominance in the Sunshine State.
