A Republican-backed bill to block local governments from regulating presidential library construction cleared a key hurdle Thursday, sailing through the State Affairs Committee on a 16-7 vote.
HB 69, now headed for the Florida House floor, aims to facilitate President Donald Trump’s potential library in the Sunshine State by stripping cities and counties of zoning sway.

Asked about whether the bill would greenlight an “unconventional” library—one with a hotel or casino
Rep. Alex Andrade (R-Pensacola), the bill’s sponsor, said, “The bill does not contemplate anything other than issues of a development order and the land-use decisions being made by the state instead of a local government.”
The Senate companion, SB 118, has also hurdled committees, teeing up a full chamber vote.
