EPA Unleashes “Greatest Day Of Deregulatory Action” In U.S. History

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced Wednesday what he called “the largest deregulatory announcement in U.S. history,” a move that conservatives are hailing as a landmark victory for American energy and economic freedom.

During a press briefing, Zeldin outlined 31 historic actions that will reconsider and potentially roll back a host of regulations imposed during the Biden administration.

“I’m pleased to make the largest deregulatory announcement in U.S. history,” Zeldin said. “The Environmental Protection Agency is initiating 31 historic actions to fulfill President Trump’s promise to unleash American energy, revitalize our auto industry, restore the rule of law, and give power back to the states.”

The initiative targets a range of regulations that, according to Zeldin, have stifled economic growth and cost Americans trillions of dollars. Among the policies under review are the Biden administration’s so-called Clean Power Plan 2.0, mercury and air toxic standards, particulate matter regulations affecting cars and trucks, niche app rules, and the controversial “social cost of carbon.”

“In revisiting these suffocating rules, we are not only promoting cooperative federalism by partnering with states that rejected the last administration’s Good Neighbor rule, but also reasserting our commitment to a strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and our laws,” Zeldin explained.

A particularly contentious element of the new deregulatory drive is the reevaluation of the 2009 endangerment finding, a ruling that environmentalists have long called the “Holy Grail” of climate change policy. “For me, the U.S. Constitution and the laws of this nation will be strictly interpreted and followed. No exceptions,” Zeldin emphasized.

Zeldin’s announcement comes as part of an effort to lower the cost of living by making it more affordable to purchase cars, heat homes, and operate businesses. He asserted that the regulatory rollback is expected to create jobs, particularly in the U.S. auto industry, and fuel a “Great American comeback” economically.

“From the campaign trail to day one and beyond, President Trump has delivered on his promise to unleash energy, dominance, and lower the cost of living,” Zeldin said. “We at EPA will do our part to power the Great American comeback.”

The 31 actions, which span nearly every sector of the economy, are set to undergo a rigorous review process in the coming months. While critics warn that such broad deregulation could have adverse environmental and public health effects, supporters argue that the measures are long overdue and necessary to eliminate wasteful regulations that have hindered economic progress.

As the EPA moves forward with its ambitious deregulatory agenda, both industry leaders and policymakers are watching closely to assess the impact on American energy, manufacturing, and overall economic vitality. Further details on the implementation and outcomes of these actions are expected in the coming weeks.
