POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Polk State College sophomore guard Ty Owens has been recognized as one of the top junior college basketball players in Florida, earning a spot on the All-FCSAA team.
Owens, a team captain from Port St. Lucie, led the Eagles in scoring (14.8 points per game), assists (4.5 per game), steals (1.9 per game), 3-point percentage (.415), and free-throw percentage (.881) this season. He led the FCSAA in free-throw percentage and ranked among the conference leaders in scoring, assists, and steals.

“Ty has been a tremendous player for our program and has grown tremendously since arriving on campus,” said Polk State Head Coach Brandon Giles. “It’s rare for opposing coaches in your conference to call (NCAA) Division I programs about a player on another team, but they’ve done that for Ty. That speaks volumes. He’s a great young man and comes from a great family.”
Owens is the fifth Polk State player to be named All-FCSAA under Coach Giles, joining Tekorian “TK” Smith (a two-time selection), Freddie Word, Tommie Lewis, and George Pridgett. He is the first player since Lewis in the 2020-21 season to lead the Eagles in scoring, assists, and steals per game.

Owens’ outstanding performance has helped lead Polk State to a 19-11 record and a berth in the FCSAA Tournament for the first time since 2022. The Eagles will open tournament play on Thursday in Niceville against Daytona State College.
