Tornado Tears Through Seminole County Florida: Home Collapses, Semi Overturned

A confirmed tornado touched down in Seminole County Monday morning, causing significant damage in Longwood and Lake Mary, officials reported.  

The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the tornado touched down around 9:40 a.m., moving northeast at 30 mph. Residents were warned of dangerous flying debris and urged to seek shelter.  

In Lake Mary, a terrifying scene unfolded as a tractor-trailer was overturned near Lake Emma Road and Commerce Street.

In Longwood, the Seminole County Fire Department reported a home collapse on the 2100 block of Blue Iris. Fortunately, the two occupants of the home were uninjured.

“We are evaluating the rest of the area and have established a Unified Command in conjunction with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management,” SCFD said in a statement to WKMG.  

Additional damage was reported in Longwood, with a structure demolished and downed trees littering the area. Downed trees and debris were widespread across the region, blocking roads and causing travel disruptions.

Tornado warnings were issued throughout the morning across multiple counties, including Sumter and Volusia, before the final warning expired at 10:45 a.m. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage.
