Ohio Woman Killed In Florida Crash After Driver Runs Stop Sign

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – An 81-year-old woman from Defiance, Ohio, was killed in a traffic collision at the intersection of Manatee Creek Boulevard and US-41 on Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 78-year-old Defiance, Ohio man, failed to stop at a posted stop sign on Manatee Creek Boulevard. The Equinox entered the path of a northbound Hyundai Tucson, driven by a 25-year-old Ruskin woman, resulting in a collision.

An 81-year-old Defiance, Ohio woman, a passenger in the Equinox, sustained fatal injuries and died after being transported to a local hospital.

Both drivers were also transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
