HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Valrico man is celebrating a life-changing win after scratching his way to a $1 million prize from the Florida Lottery’s MILLIONAIRE MAKER Scratch-Off game.
Roger Shackelford, 67, purchased his winning ticket from the Publix located at 3461 Lithia Pinecrest Road in Valrico, turning a $5 investment into a million-dollar payday. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $640,000.00.

The MILLIONAIRE MAKER game, launched in May, offers players the chance to win over $79 million in cash prizes, including six top prizes of $1 million. With overall odds of winning at 1-in-3.99, this game has been a popular choice for lottery players.
The retailer that sold the winning ticket, Publix, will receive a $2,000 bonus commission.

Scratch-off games continue to be a significant revenue generator for the Florida Lottery, accounting for approximately 74% of ticket sales in the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
