A North Carolina woman is facing serious charges after allegedly locking her boyfriend in a storage unit filled with clutter and leaving him there for days without food or water.

The bizarre incident unfolded on February 20th when Robin Deaton and her boyfriend got into an argument. During the dispute, Deaton allegedly trapped her boyfriend inside a storage unit on Old Charlotte Highway in Monroe.

The victim was unable to escape until February 25th, when he finally located his phone amidst the piles of hoarded items and called 911. In a chilling call to the dispatcher, the man pleaded for help, saying he couldn’t breathe and hadn’t had anything to drink.

Police arrived to find the storage unit packed with belongings, describing it as a “hoarder’s paradise-type situation.” The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment of dehydration.

While the victim reportedly believes Deaton did not intentionally leave him to die, police have a different view. “We believe that she truly intended for him to die in that storage unit with no food and no water, no outside source of anything,” said Lt. Morgan Malone told WJZY. “She knew she locked him in there and never went back to check on him.”

Deaton was arrested and is currently in custody in Mecklenburg County, facing charges of first-degree kidnapping and attempted first-degree murder.
