MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 31-year-old Key Largo man has been arrested and charged with burglary and grand theft after stealing a piece of construction equipment valued at approximately $8,000.
Joseph Anthony Barrera was taken into custody on Wednesday in connection to the theft of a heavy-duty auger. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the incident in September 2024, after the 300-500 pound auger was reported stolen from a location on Eagle Drive in Key Largo.

Detectives determined through their investigation that Barrera used a Can-Am side-by-side vehicle to commit the theft.
Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued, and Barrera was apprehended and booked into the Monroe County Jail. The Sheriff’s Office also seized the Can-Am side-by-side vehicle used in the crime.
