The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is seeking public input on the possibility of regulating black bear hunting in the state. A virtual public meeting to discuss potential options has been scheduled for March 13th at 6 p.m. EDT.

This initiative follows a December 2024 meeting where the FWC’s Bear Management Program provided a five-year update on the implementation of the 2019 Florida Black Bear Management Plan. After the presentation, Commissioners directed staff to propose options for a potential bear hunt at a future meeting.

The FWC is now seeking public comment on this issue.

Those interested in participating in the virtual meeting can join by visiting MyFWC.com/Hunting and clicking on “Florida black bear.” Comments can also be submitted via email to BearComments@MyFWC.com.

The FWC will consider public input as they develop potential bear hunting regulations. This is an important opportunity for Florida residents to voice their opinions and contribute to the decision-making process regarding the management of black bears in the state.
