According to evidence presented in court, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on May 5, 2024, at the McDonald’s located at 4100 Wisconsin Avenue NW. The 87-year-old victim was in the process of purchasing gift cards when Herndon approached him from behind as he exited the restroom. Video footage from the restaurant clearly showed Herndon reaching into the victim’s jacket pocket and stealing his wallet.
Multiple witnesses at the scene observed Herndon fleeing the restaurant on foot. Law enforcement officers were able to apprehend Herndon later the same day. Crucially, he was still wearing the same clothing he had been wearing during the robbery, providing strong evidence of his involvement.
