HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Brooksville teenager faces a slew of charges after attempting to flee from Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies on Monday night. Jayden Cochrane, 16, was arrested following an incident at Hill N Dale Park.
On February 19, 2025, at approximately 10:36 PM, deputies were in the area of Hill N Dale Park searching for a wanted individual when they observed a vehicle parked illegally. The park’s posted hours are from dawn to dusk.

As deputies approached the vehicle, Cochrane, who was driving, put the car in drive and attempted to leave. He drove approximately 20 feet before crashing into a raised curb and becoming stuck.
Deputies approached the vehicle, where Cochrane and an unidentified passenger initially failed to comply with commands to exit. Deputies observed a firearm located between the driver’s seat and the center console.
Cochrane was removed from the vehicle and arrested. During this process, the male passenger fled on foot and was not apprehended.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed what deputies believe to be a fully automatic “switch” handgun, which was within reach of the driver. Deputies also discovered marijuana and 32.5 grams of THC concentrate. A check of the firearm revealed it had been reported stolen in Pasco County in November 2024.
Cochrane was arrested on the following charges:
- Fleeing to Elude
- Loitering and Prowling
- Possession of a Machine Gun
- Resisting with Violence
- Aggravated Assault with a Firearm on a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO)
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm
- Possession of Cannabis Concentrate
- Possession of Marijuana
Cochrane was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center and subsequently transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala.
