PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – Pinellas Park Police Chief Adam Geissenberger issued a strong statement today following the sentencing of Calvin Brockington, who received two consecutive life terms for the attempted murders of two police officers.
The sentencing comes after a jury found Brockington guilty on February 13, 2025, on charges including two counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of Hydromorphone, and Trafficking in Methamphetamines and Phenethylamines.

“This sentencing delivers justice not only for Officer Jacob Derr and Officer KC Gavin but for every victim affected by this defendant’s violent actions,” Chief Geissenberger stated. “Calvin Brockington made the deliberate choice to ambush and attempt to murder two police officers, terrorize innocent citizens, and endanger the lives of many in a reckless, violent rampage. Today, the court ensured that he will never again have the opportunity to destroy another life.”
Brockington’s convictions stem from a violent crime spree on April 19, 2022. The events of that day included the near-fatal shooting of Officer Jacob Derr, who suffered career-ending injuries, the attempted murder of Officer KC Gavin, the brutalization of a pregnant woman, a violent carjacking, and a police pursuit that resulted in serious injuries to Deputy Lundy.

Officer Derr was ambushed and shot during the incident, sustaining catastrophic injuries that forced him to end his law enforcement career.
“Jacob’s life was forever changed by the defendant’s choices,” Chief Geissenberger said. “Yet, despite all that he has endured, he has demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. This department will always stand by him and every other victim affected by that night.”
