RIVERVIEW, Fla. – A 14-year-old Rodgers Middle Magnet School student was arrested today by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) for making online threats of a mass shooting and violence against students.

Mariah Miles, a student at the school, was taken into custody after the HCSO’s School Threat Assessment and Response Team (START) responded to the school and investigated the threats.

The HCSO received reports of the threatening online posts earlier today. Details of the specific platforms used and the exact wording of the threats have not yet been released, but officials confirmed that Miles made threats of a mass shooting and violence directed at fellow students.

The START team responded immediately to Rodgers Middle Magnet School, located in Riverview, and located Miles. She was taken into custody without incident.

At this time, investigators do not believe Miles had access to any weapons. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working to determine the motivation behind the threats and gather further evidence.
