PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A Hudson man is dead after a high-speed motorcycle crash in Dunedin early Friday morning. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports that speed was a factor in the fatal accident.
According to investigators, deputies were conducting speed enforcement near Bayshore Boulevard and Michigan Boulevard around 5:45 a.m. when they attempted to stop a red Kawasaki motorcycle traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.

The motorcyclist, later identified as 41-year-old Michael Gaffney, fled from the traffic stop, accelerating southbound on Bayshore Boulevard. The deputy deactivated his emergency lights and did not pursue.
Just three minutes later, multiple 911 calls reported a motorcycle crash near 1427 Bayshore Boulevard. Gaffney had lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a guy-wire attached to a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash.
