Despite recent hints of warmer weather, winter is not ready to release its hold on Florida just yet. The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a forecast predicting a series of cold fronts moving through the state over the next week, bringing cooler temperatures, rain, and even the possibility of fog.

A stalled front currently draped over South Florida will keep conditions warm and humid in the southern part of the state, with a few showers possible along the boundary. Areas north of the front will be slightly cooler and less humid.

This front is expected to lift back north tomorrow as high pressure builds in. However, another front will move through on Sunday, bringing another round of rain, mainly to the Nature Coast, along with a slight drop in temperature and humidity.

And the pattern continues. Forecasters predict another front arriving on Thursday, followed by yet another front next weekend.

“You might want to hold off putting away your winter clothes,” the National Weather Service advises. Thursday’s front is expected to bring a significant blast of cold air, with low temperatures dropping into the 30s and 40s across the state.

Aviation and Marine Impacts:

  • Aviation: Low clouds and isolated showers are expected through the weekend, with potential for fog, especially along the interior. Sunday’s front could bring a line of showers and storms in the afternoon.
  • Marine: Gusty northeast winds will diminish overnight, with a chance of patchy fog that could affect coastal waters in the morning. Winds will shift to a more southerly direction tomorrow before the cold front moves through on Sunday, bringing increased winds and a shift to northerly directions.

This forecast indicates that Florida will continue to experience fluctuating temperatures and unsettled weather patterns in the coming days. Residents are advised to stay informed about the latest weather updates and be prepared for cooler temperatures and the possibility of rain and fog.
