A Florida man has been arrested in connection with the drowning death of his infant daughter in 2024. Joshua Ruiz-Martinez, 32, is facing aggravated manslaughter charges after allegedly leaving his daughter unattended in a bathtub while he played video games.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on April 21, 2024.
Ruiz-Martinez initially told first responders that he had placed his daughter in the tub with a small amount of water and left to retrieve a bottle because she was fussy. He claimed to have found her unresponsive and face-down in the bathtub upon his return.

However, investigators were able to access Ruiz-Martinez’s computer game records, which revealed that he was actively playing a video game during the time of the incident. The timestamps on the game contradicted his initial statement to authorities.
When confronted with this evidence, Ruiz-Martinez reportedly became emotional and expressed disbelief that he could have caused his daughter’s death due to being engrossed in a video game.

Despite the incident occurring nearly a year ago, Ruiz-Martinez was arrested this week on aggravated manslaughter charges. The reason for the delay in the arrest remains unclear.
