HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A 63-year-old Lutz woman was injured in a shooting incident on I-275 Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around 5:00 PM near Milepost 56 on the southbound lanes of the interstate.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the woman suffered a medical emergency while driving, causing her to lose control of her GMC Yukon. The vehicle left the roadway, collided with a road sign, and then returned to the travel lanes where it collided with another vehicle described as a silver or white mid-sized SUV.

Following the collision, an unknown assailant shot at the woman’s vehicle before fleeing the scene. FHP troopers arrived to find the woman bleeding heavily and administered life-saving measures.

Upon further investigation, troopers discovered a bullet hole in the driver’s side window and recovered fragments of the bullet from the back seat. It was determined that the woman’s injuries were caused by shattered glass from the window, not the bullet itself.

The FHP is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS
