U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Santor Aibar, a 56-year-old Dominican national, in East Boston on January 22nd. Aibar, who was previously deported, is now facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and shoplifting.

Aibar has a history of criminal activity. He was convicted in Massachusetts in 2008 for heroin distribution and sentenced to one year in prison. He was subsequently deported to the Dominican Republic by ICE in November 2010.

It is unclear when and how Aibar illegally re-entered the United States. ICE encountered him again in February 2023 following a local arrest and issued an immigration detainer with the Boston Police Department. However, Aibar was released by the state of Massachusetts in February 2024 without honoring the detainer.

In September 2024, Aibar was arraigned in South Boston District Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and shoplifting. Following this, ICE took him into custody.

“Santos Aibar is exactly the kind of alien offender who needs to be removed from the streets of Massachusetts,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Boston Enforcement and Removal Operations. “He has already been convicted of peddling poison to our neighborhoods, and he currently stands accused of assaulting a resident with a box cutter. ICE Boston will not tolerate such threats to the people of our New England communities. We stand committed to our mission of arresting and removing such egregious alien threats.” Aibar remains in ICE custody.

Aibar remains in custody following his apprehension by ICE.
