Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has taken a bold stand in defense of President Donald Trump, leading a coalition of 15 states in opposing what they describe as “unprecedented lawsuits” that interfere with the sitting President’s ability to fulfill his duties.
The lawsuits in question target President Trump’s company, Trump Media and Technology Group, the parent company of his popular social media platform, Truth Social. President Trump is named as a defendant in the litigation, which the coalition argues is an attempt to divert his attention from serving the American people and advancing his America First agenda.

The 15-state coalition is urging the court to either dismiss the lawsuit against President Trump or suspend it while he remains in office. They argue that the President, as the nation’s chief executive, must be free to focus on his official duties without the distraction of politically motivated legal challenges. “I am calling on the court to let the President serve without the threat of weaponized lawsuits as he delivers on his America First agenda,” Bird said.

The brief highlights the extraordinary number of lawsuits President Trump has faced compared to his predecessors, noting that he has already been subject to more state lawsuits than all other American presidents combined. This, the coalition argues, underscores the need for judicial intervention to prevent the misuse of the legal system for political purposes.
Iowa spearheaded the legal brief, with Attorney General Bird rallying support from a diverse group of states. The coalition includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Texas. Together, these states represent a significant bloc of support for President Trump and his administration’s policies.

The lawsuit against President Trump and Trump Media and Technology Group is part of a broader debate over the extent to which a sitting president should be shielded from legal actions unrelated to their official duties. While presidential immunity has long been a contentious issue, the coalition’s brief argues that the current lawsuits represent an unprecedented escalation of legal challenges aimed at a sitting president.
As the case moves forward, the coalition’s efforts to protect President Trump from what they describe as “weaponized lawsuits” will likely fuel further debate over the balance between accountability and the need for a president to govern free from undue interference.
