Shocking new revelations from the White Coat Waste Project (WCW) have uncovered that American taxpayers are funding horrific animal testing in Chinese laboratories, including the abuse of hundreds of beagles each week.

Documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reveal that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense (DOD) are bankrolling these cruel experiments, which involve force-feeding, drug injections, and other traumatic procedures on puppies as young as eight months old.

WCW’s Seeing Red investigation, which first exposed taxpayer-funded dog testing in Chinese labs last year, has now uncovered never-before-seen details of these experiments. According to the documents, a Chinese laboratory contracted by the NIH and DOD is conducting tests on 300 beagles per week, with the contract extended until May 2025. The NIH is contributing $124,000, while the DOD is providing an unspecified amount of taxpayer money.

The documents chillingly state that beagles are chosen for these experiments because they are “docile, cute, and easy to domesticate, so it has been the best choice.” This callous reasoning highlights the ethical concerns surrounding the use of animals in research, particularly when funded by U.S. taxpayers.

The records describe gruesome procedures, including repeatedly shoving tubes down the throats of beagles to force-feed them experimental drugs and restraining them for hours on end. One particularly harrowing case involved an 18-month-old female beagle whose spinal cord was severed before she was killed by experimenters.

In addition to the beagle testing, the documents reveal that $108,000 in taxpayer funds is being wasted on deadly drug tests involving an estimated 100,000 mice and rats.

WCW’s investigation also found that at least 26 animal laboratories in China are approved to receive U.S. taxpayer dollars from the NIH, DOD, and other government agencies. Some of these labs are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party and have ties to the Chinese military, raising further concerns about accountability and transparency.

In response to these findings, WCW has unveiled a plan urging President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to defund all dog testing and animal experiments in China. The organization is also calling on lawmakers to take immediate action to stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to these abusive and wasteful practices.

“American taxpayers should never be forced to fund beagle abuse in unaccountable foreign animal labs,” said a WCW in a post. “This is not only a moral issue but also a matter of fiscal responsibility.”

WCW has a track record of uncovering and ending unethical taxpayer-funded experiments, which the Tampa Free Press has reported on. In early 2020, the organization exposed and halted Dr. Anthony Fauci’s funding for gain-of-function animal tests in Wuhan, which violated federal policy and may have contributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CIA and other intelligence agencies have since acknowledged that the Wuhan lab likely caused the outbreak.

Despite these revelations, WCW’s latest investigation shows that taxpayer-funded animal testing in China continues unabated.

The findings have sparked outrage among animal rights advocates and lawmakers alike. WCW’s campaign to defund these experiments has garnered support from leading legislators who are pushing for greater oversight and accountability in how taxpayer dollars are spent on foreign research.

“Is this how you want your money spent?” WCW asked in a statement. “For years, we’ve been leading the fight to expose and stop the government’s wasteful spending on barbaric dog experiments at home and abroad. It’s time to put an end to this cruelty.”

As WCW continues to push for defunding these experiments, the organization is urging Americans to contact their representatives and demand action. The revelations underscore the need for greater transparency and ethical considerations in government-funded research, particularly when it involves animal testing in foreign laboratories.
