John Anthony Owen, 24, of Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for illegal possession of machineguns. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
Owen’s charges originated from an April 4, 2024, incident where Oklahoma City Police, executing a search warrant at his residence, discovered two firearms modified with machinegun conversion devices (MCDs). These devices convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic machineguns, the possession of which is prohibited under federal law.

Following his indictment in June 2024, Owen pleaded guilty the following month, admitting to knowingly possessing the MCDs. U.S. District Judge Jodi W. Dishman handed down the sentence on January 30, 2025. In addition to his prison term, Owen will be subject to three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Oklahoma City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Hoch prosecuted the case.
