MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A 36-year-old Big Pine Key man already in jail on unrelated theft charges is now facing additional charges of child abuse and possession of child pornography.
Michael John Demerjian was charged Friday with sexual battery on a child under 12, possession of child pornography, and multiple counts of possessing photographs promoting a sexual performance.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives began investigating Demerjian on January 17, 2025, after a person who purchased a vehicle from him found a cell phone containing child pornography images.

The phone contained over 70 images and a video of Demerjian sexually battering a victim. The State Attorney’s Office assisted detectives in the investigation.
Demerjian remains in jail without bond.
“Protecting the most vulnerable members of our community will always be my highest priority and I want to thank the men and women of the Major Crimes Unit as well as our partners at the State Attorney’s Office for working quickly to do just that in this case,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
