SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A 50-year-old Wildwood man was killed in a four-vehicle crash on State Road 44 in Sumter County on Tuesday afternoon. The collision occurred at approximately 12:45 PM west of Industrial Drive.
A single-unit truck, driven by a 40-year-old man from Elizabeth, NJ, was traveling eastbound on SR 44 in the outside lane.

Ahead of the truck, also traveling eastbound, were a Honda Civic driven by the Wildwood man, a Ford F150 driven by a 76-year-old man from Webster, FL, and a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 73-year-old man from Las Vegas, CA.
Traffic ahead, including the Civic, F150, and RAV4, had come to a stop.
The driver of the single-unit truck failed to slow down or stop and collided with the rear of the Honda Civic. The truck then continued forward, striking the Ford F150 and the Toyota RAV4 in a chain-reaction collision.

The 50-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries. The drivers of the single-unit truck and the Ford F150 sustained minor injuries and were also taken to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the Toyota RAV4 was not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
