Pasco County Opens Cold Weather Shelter As Temperatures Plummet

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – With a blast of frigid air gripping the region, Pasco County is taking action to protect vulnerable residents by opening a cold weather shelter. Starting Tuesday, January 21st, those in need of a warm place to stay can find refuge at the Shady Hills Mission Chapel in Spring Hill.

The shelter, located at 15925 Greenglen Lane, will be open nightly from 6:00 PM to 10:00 AM, providing a safe haven from the potentially dangerous cold. It will remain open through Sunday, January 26th.

The Pasco County Emergency Management team reminds residents to take precautions during this period of extreme cold:

  • Dress in layers: Wear multiple layers of loose-fitting clothing to trap warm air.
  • Limit outdoor exposure: Minimize time spent outdoors, especially during the coldest parts of the day.
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors: Reach out to elderly neighbors or those with health conditions to ensure they are staying warm and safe.
  • Protect pets: Bring pets indoors or provide them with adequate shelter from the cold.
