Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys group, has been released from a federal prison in Louisiana, according to media reports and his mother’s celebratory social media post.

Tarrio’s mother, Zuny Tarrio, took to X Monday evening to share the news with her followers, writing, “My son is being released!!!! Omg! Lord thank you!!! TARRIO IS FREE!!!”

According to The New York Times, Tarrio was in the process of being released just hours after President Donald Trump was sworn into office for his second term.

While Tarrio has not yet been granted formal clemency, his attorney, Nayib Hassan, stated that his client was being processed out of prison tonight.

Tarrio had been serving a 22-year prison sentence for seditious conspiracy related to his role in the January 6, 2021, riot on the U.S. Capitol.
