POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A wrong-way driving incident in Polk County early Saturday morning resulted in the arrest of two individuals.
58-year-old Paul Kelly of Winter Haven and 56-year-old Constance Metzger of Apopka were taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office following a brief pursuit.
Around 1:11 AM on Saturday, January 19th, a deputy observed a gray 2024 Kia traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of US 27 near Frostproof.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Metzger, refused to stop. The pursuit continued until another deputy blocked the roadway with a patrol car, forcing the Kia to come to a halt.
While both occupants of the vehicle initially cooperated with deputies, their behavior escalated, leading to additional charges.

Kelly, the passenger, was accused of battery on a law enforcement officer, threatening a law enforcement officer with serious bodily harm, corruption by threat, and resisting arrest. Metzger, the driver, was charged with fleeing to elude, DUI, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
Both Kelly and Metzger were transported to the Polk County Jail.
