CNN’s Scott Jennings asked fellow panelist and former Biden senior advisor Ashley Etienne a question on Wednesday evening after she defended President Joe Biden calling out “misinformation” during his farewell address.

On Wednesday evening, Biden addressed the nation for the last time to discuss his administration’s past four years. The president said he was concerned about the “rise of a tech industrial complex” and Americans “being buried under an avalanche of misinformation and disinformation.”

On CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” Etienne said that she believed it was “incredibly important” for Biden to point out the issue of “myths and disinformation” on social media platforms, adding that President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration would “continue to undermine the truth.”

Jennings then posed a question, “Has Joe Biden, Kamala Harris or Kareem Jean-Pierre ever lied?”

Etienne said she did not know.

“What are you talking about? I know where you’re going with this, but that’s not the point,” Etienne said. “Donald Trump stands up at the podium every day and delivers lies.”

Before Biden’s poor debate against Trump, legacy media outlets and Democrats, including press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, attempted to downplay concerns about the president’s mental fitness. They accused Republicans and, at times, Russia of creating a negative narrative. During a briefing on July 23, Jean-Pierre labeled videos of Biden appearing confused or stumbling on his words as “cheap fakes” created by Republicans.

Vice President Kamala Harris, throughout her presidential campaign, was consistently questioned on her flip-flopping of left-wing policies she had advocated before entering the White House in 2021.

“Your speech is about the truth, and one thing about Biden that has always vexed Republicans is that he spends a lot of time talking about him being the center of truth and the restoration of the soul of the nation,” Jennings said.

“Yet he and his people spend a heck of a lot of time undermining that very talking point, up to and including this year, with a massive cover up of his own condition, “Jennings said.

Etienne jumped in and asked Jennings about Trump “lying to the American people” about COVID-19. She said Trump told voters to, among other things, “drink bleach.” Jennings could be heard repeatedly saying, “Debunked, debunked,” before questioning her argument.

“Are you saying the virus was listening to Donald Trump?” Jennings asked. “I just want to make sure I understand that your position is, is that Donald Trump’s words induced the virus to kill people?”

Etienne responded.

“No, what Donald Trump’s words did was prevent people from protecting themselves and their neighbors, and 500,000 plus people lost their lives. That was my point,” Etienne said. “More importantly, because of his lies, he didn’t create an infrastructure from the governor’s all the way down to the shots in arms to get the economy open again. So lies have consequences. That’s what Biden was talking about today.”

Jennings said Trump gave the U.S. the vaccine. Jennings then called upon CNN host Anderson Cooper and said, “This is crazy. I’m sorry. This is insane.”

With fewer than six days left in office, Biden is set to leave at an all-time low disapproval rating, with CNN’s poll conducted by SSRS finding only 36% of Americans approve of Biden’s term.
