POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old Auburndale man’s threats to “bang it out” with Polk County Sheriff’s deputies landed him in jail Sunday night.

Sonny James Ervin, who was already on felony probation for a firearms offense, allegedly made threats against deputies during a phone conversation with the Sheriff’s Office. He claimed to be armed with a handgun and expressed his intent to engage in violence with law enforcement.

Deputies responded to Ervin’s residence at 21 Palms Resort on State Road 559. Upon arrival, they found Ervin armed with a knife. After some negotiation, deputies convinced him to drop the weapon.

However, Ervin continued to resist, shoving a deputy before being handcuffed. He remained defiant, yelling threats and claiming he would “rock all y’all.”

Even after being secured in a patrol car, deputies say Ervin continued his verbal assault, stating, “I’d beat your *** if these cuffs came off right now, come on, let’s swing this ***** out.”
