POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 29-year-old Auburndale man learned a hard lesson about the law after attempting to justify his burglary of a storage shed by claiming the stolen items were “abandoned.”
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Morgan after he allegedly broke into a storage shed on two separate occasions, first making off with a generator and later stealing a toolbox and tools.
When confronted by detectives, Morgan claimed he had a right to take the items because they were abandoned and he had no criminal intent. However, detectives were unimpressed with his legal argument.

“He’s 29 years old, but he’s 29 going on stupid,” said Sheriff Grady Judd. “Now he’s in jail.”
Morgan was charged with burglary with intent to commit a crime. Sheriff Judd emphasized that Morgan’s attempt to justify his actions demonstrates a lack of understanding of the law.
“Our detectives know a little bit more about the law than Joshua does,” Judd stated.
