The Coast Guard rescued four people from a sinking vessel off the Florida coast on Sunday afternoon.
A distress call was received by Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders around 5:00 PM, reporting that a 27-foot vessel was taking on water approximately 11 miles north of Marathon. A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Marathon was immediately dispatched to the scene.
The crew arrived on the scene and safely embarked the four individuals from the distressed vessel. They were then transported to shore at the 33rd Street boat ramp. No injuries were reported.

“Our crews consistently prepare to respond to these situations day and night” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Zachary Aparo, a Sector Key West watchstander, “Thanks to their prompt call for help, we were able to get on scene quickly and conduct a successful rescue before they entered the water.”
The owner of the vessel is making arrangements to salvage it. The Coast Guard reminds all boaters to ensure they have proper safety equipment on board and to contact the Coast Guard immediately in case of an emergency.
