LAKE WALES, Fla. – A New Year’s Day motorcycle crash took a violent turn when a stepfather and his teenage stepson allegedly attacked people who came to the aid of the injured rider.
Around 12:09 AM on Wednesday, a woman crashed her motorcycle near her home in the area of Silver Spur Loop and Longhorn Drive in Lake Wales. When her friends rushed to help, 56-year-old Wilfredo Florenciani and his 17-year-old stepson, Angel Oliveras, emerged from a nearby residence and confronted the group.

According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Florenciani initiated a physical altercation, punching and slapping several individuals. Oliveras then allegedly brandished a handgun, and Florenciani reportedly instructed him to “aim at his head.”
Shots were fired at a 23-year-old male victim, but he was not hit. Florenciani then allegedly took the gun and fired additional shots at the man as the group fled.
The male victim told investigators that he fired his own weapon into the ground to scare off the attackers, but only after they had shot at him first.

Despite denying any involvement in the shooting or owning a firearm, evidence revealed that Florenciani’s wife had purchased a .40 caliber Glock a few years prior. Detectives also discovered three loaded .40 caliber magazines in the suspects’ front yard.
Florenciani, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and other related charges.
Oliveras, who is currently on probation, was also arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, and violation of probation.
