An Army National Guard soldier has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting at a residence on Fort Eisenhower in Georgia last weekend.

Natravien Landry, 25, of Abbeville, Louisiana, faces a single count of murder, according to Jill E. Steinberg, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia. Landry appeared in federal court on Monday for an initial hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian K. Epps. A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Court documents and testimony reveal that Landry, a soldier with the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower, visited a residence on the post early Saturday morning, December 14. The residence was occupied by a woman with whom Landry shares a child.

Landry is accused of assaulting and fatally shooting a man who was with the woman at her residence. After the alleged incident, Landry fled Fort Eisenhower.

Approximately three hours later, Landry was apprehended south of Atlanta on Interstate 85 during a traffic stop conducted by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies recovered a 9 mm pistol during the stop.

Following his arrest, Landry was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he is awaiting further court proceedings.

Federal criminal complaints contain allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The case is being investigated by the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. It is being prosecuted by Southern District of Georgia Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry W. Syms Jr., Patricia G. Rhodes, and Kelsey L. Scanlon, along with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Capt. Jacqueline M. Stryker.
