Hillsborough County Confirms 6 Cases Of Dengue Fever, Issues Mosquito-Borne Illness Alert

TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County (DOH-Hillsborough) has confirmed six human cases of locally acquired dengue fever, prompting the county to remain under a mosquito-borne illness alert.

DOH-Hillsborough is collaborating with Hillsborough County Mosquito Control to combat the spread of the illness through enhanced surveillance and aerial spraying efforts.

Health officials are urging residents to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites, such as using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and eliminating standing water where mosquitoes can breed. A detailed flyer outlining preventative measures is being shared with the community.

The department continues statewide monitoring for mosquito-borne illnesses, including West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, St. Louis encephalitis, malaria, chikungunya, and dengue fever.

Florida residents are also encouraged to report any sightings of dead birds to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website, as this can help identify potential areas of concern.
