Republican Texas Rep. Michael McCaul detailed Tuesday how former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s fall occurred which resulted in a broken hip.

McCaul, who witnessed Pelosi’s fall in Luxembourg, said the 84-year-old prominent Democrat lost her balance on a marble step while wearing high heels, causing her to fall and be hospitalized. Pelosi underwent successful hip replacement surgery and is currently in recovery from the medical procedure in Germany.

“[Pelosi] is doing well. She had a hip replacement. I was right next to her, she likes to wear high heels, very high,” McCaul said. “She was on one of her last steps on this marble staircase that didn’t have a railing and she lost her footing and fell to the ground. I immediately helped pick her up and we took a picture after that, you can see me holding her up by her hand, and very soon thereafter a vehicle picked her up and she was taken to the hospital. I wish her a speedy recovery.”

The congressman said Pelosi was transported from Luxembourg to Ramstein, Germany, to have her hip replacement surgery. He said she is no longer suffering from any health complications and is eager to return to the United States.

Pelosi traveled to Luxembourg as part of a bipartisan delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, according to Pelosi’s spokesperson Ian Krager. Her hospitalization followed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s fall during a Republican lunch at the U.S. Capitol on Dec. 10, causing a sprained wrist and cut on his face.

The former House speaker has notably said President-elect Donald Trump, who is currently 78 years old, is too old to serve in the Oval Office.

“[Trump] can’t last as president for four years with his brain deteriorating at the rate that it is and is clearly evident and they may be voting for President Vance, which would be a horrible thing for our country,” Pelosi told MSNBC on Nov. 4.
