The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) has condemned President Joe Biden for what they call his “crass exploitation” of Monday’s tragic school shooting at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, to promote his longstanding gun control agenda.
In a statement issued Tuesday, CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb criticized the president for pushing policies he believes are irrelevant to the incident. “With just over one month remaining in his disastrous term,” Gottlieb said, “Joe Biden just couldn’t restrain himself from rolling out his one-size-fits-all gun control wish list.”

The president’s call for universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines sparked particular criticism. “Joe Biden knows 15-year-olds can’t legally buy handguns anywhere in this country, so a call for background checks is irrelevant,” Gottlieb argued. “Police recovered a handgun used in the shooting, so calling for bans on semiautomatic rifles and their magazines is also irrelevant and dishonest.”
Reports indicate there was no armed school resource officer on-site at Abundant Life Christian School to protect students and staff. Gottlieb emphasized that penalizing lawful gun owners would not have prevented the tragedy.

“We join all Americans in deploring this horrible crime,” Gottlieb said. “However, attempting to penalize every law-abiding citizen who owns or may someday wish to purchase a firearm will not undo this tragedy.” He added that the incident highlights flaws in Biden’s approach, noting that the laws the president is pushing “would not have prevented what happened in Madison.”
Gottlieb called for a more practical response, urging for armed resource officers in schools and improvements in mental health counseling as preventive measures. “Instead of shooting-from-the-lip, as Biden has done throughout his 50-plus years in politics,” Gottlieb said, “we look forward to working with the next administration on rational solutions.”
