At least 14 suspects were detained early Tuesday after a violent home invasion, kidnapping, and assault at an apartment complex already notorious for criminal activity, according to Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain.

The incident occurred late Monday at The Edge at Lowry Apartments on Dallas Street, the same complex that drew national attention earlier this year following a viral video of armed suspects terrorizing residents.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a 911 call reporting an armed home invasion, stabbing, and kidnapping. Investigators say the ordeal began at approximately 8:45 p.m. Monday when a group of suspects—13 males and possibly three females—entered an apartment at 1258 Dallas Street, where two victims, an adult male and female, resided.

The victims were forcibly moved to a neighboring building at 1268 Dallas Street, where they were bound, pistol-whipped, beaten, and threatened. During the assault, the suspects reportedly burglarized the victims’ apartment, stealing items of value.

Chief Chamberlain detailed the victims’ experience during a press conference, calling it an act of terror and victimization. “The victims were held against their will, they were beaten and bound. They were terrorized,” Chamberlain said. The male victim sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound during the attack.

After being held for several hours, the victims convinced the suspects to release them, promising not to alert authorities. They fled the complex and contacted 911 from a friend’s home in Aurora.

Multiple officers responded to the scene and detained 14 suspects. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to identify and interview those involved. The victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“This complex is incredibly problematic and crime-riddled,” said Chamberlain. “The City of Aurora and law enforcement have been focusing on this location, and we will not stop until those responsible for victimizing others are held accountable or removed.”

While police have not confirmed the suspects’ gang affiliations, Chief Chamberlain described the incident as “100% gang activity” and indicated that investigators are working to verify potential ties to a Venezuelan gang.

The victims, as well as others involved, are believed to be part of the Venezuelan immigrant community. Chamberlain assured the public that Aurora police will not tolerate such violence, regardless of immigration status. “We will not allow the victimization of our community members—documented or undocumented—to occur,” he stated firmly.

The Edge at Lowry Apartments gained nationwide notoriety in September when a viral video surfaced showing armed individuals intimidating residents. Following the video, President-elect Donald Trump announced “Operation Aurora”, a federal initiative aimed at addressing rising crime at the complex.

Chief Chamberlain reaffirmed the department’s commitment to tackling crime in the area. “We will not rest until every individual involved is brought to justice.”

Next Steps

Aurora police continue to investigate the incident and work to identify all suspects. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
