A series of unexplained drone sightings across New Jersey and neighboring East Coast states, combined with the recent disappearance of a small amount of radioactive material, has prompted investigations by multiple federal agencies, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Department of Defense (DOD).

While officials insist there is no confirmed link between the events or immediate national security threat, the incidents have triggered public concern and fueled speculation about possible government cover-ups.

The missing material, a small medical device known as a “pin source,” contained Germanium-68 (Ge-68)—a low-energy radioactive isotope used to calibrate medical scanners. The device, shipped from the Nazha Cancer Center in Newfield on December 2 for disposal, arrived at its destination damaged and empty.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued an alert, classifying the missing material as “less than Category 3,” indicating that while the quantity poses minimal risk, prolonged exposure without proper safety measures could result in radiation poisoning, nausea, or long-term health risks.

While experts downplay the likelihood of the material being used maliciously, its disappearance has heightened concerns about its possible misuse, particularly in conjunction with unexplained drone activity.

Reports of drone activity began in mid-November, with sightings near sensitive areas, including military installations and Donald Trump’s golf course. The drones, often spotted flying at night, have left authorities scrambling for answers. Despite assurances from the White House and federal agencies that the drones pose “no national security or public safety threat,” the lack of clear explanations has sparked speculation.

Federal officials are actively investigating over 5,000 drone reports, with fewer than 100 deemed significant. Assistant FBI Director Robert Wheeler told Congress last week that the Bureau is still working to identify individuals or groups responsible for the drones.

National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby reiterated that the drone activity poses no immediate threat, while DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed no known foreign involvement. However, agencies have yet to provide a definitive explanation for the sightings.

The missing radioactive material and ongoing drone investigations remain active, with federal agencies working to determine the origins of the drones and locate the missing shipment. In the meantime, officials urge the public to report suspicious activity to law enforcement as speculation continues to grow.

Authorities are expected to provide updates as investigations progress. While there is no confirmed connection between the two events, the combination of mysterious drone activity and missing radioactive material has sparked fears of a broader issue that has yet to be uncovered.
